SPRINGFIELD – In response to the recent closing of Singer Mental Health facility, State Senator Steve Stadelman (D-Rockford) is sponsoring a measure to make sure that the Rockford community would still receive sufficient mental health services. "I felt we needed to make sure that the state is still providing adequate services to mental health patients in our community," Senator Stadelman said.
The proposal allows the state to use proceeds from the sale of closed facilities to fund mental health services in the area where the closed facility is located. This follows legislation passed last fall that could potentially put Singer Mental Health facility to new use and back on property tax rolls.
"This is the second key reform I have sponsored dealing with communities selling state facilities. Now, not only will areas be able to sell shuttered facilities, they can also use the proceeds to fund community-based care."
The measure, SB 822, passed the Senate with bipartisan support and now moves to the House for further consideration.

Quinn for Illinois Launches Rauner Watch to Track Number of Days that Rauner Continues to Hide
After Running for Governor for More Than a Year, Billionaire Bruce Rauner Refuses to Provide Answers About His Irresponsible Budget Schemes
CHICAGO - Quinn for Illinois today launched Rauner Watch - a new Timex watch to help the public keep track of the number of days that billionaire Bruce Rauner continues to hide behind expensive TV ads and refuse to answer any questions from the media about his reckless budget schemes.
Although he's been running for governor for more than a year and spent more than seven million dollars on his own campaign, Rauner says he has not had time to put together a budget plan. Instead, he's worked to mislead voters into thinking he is not the out of touch billionaire he is by wearing an $18 watch and Carhartt jacket.
"If Bruce Rauner thinks people will be fooled into thinking someone with nine mansions is 'cheap,' he is vastly underestimating the intelligence of the people of Illinois," Quinn for Illinois Deputy Press Secretary Izabela Miltko said. "The only thing Rauner is cheap about is funding our children's education. Rauner still hasn't said one peep about his irresponsible scheme to slash education and the people of Illinois deserve answers.”
By contrast Governor Pat Quinn has laid out a specific concrete budget plan to provide unprecedented property tax relief and invest in education like never before. Meanwhile it has been 396 days since Bruce Rauner has set up his exploratory committee on March 5, 2013 and he has continued to keep the people of Illinois in the dark about his dishonest scheme to slash education ever since.
