Important News from the Frerichs for Illinois State Treasurer campaign
First, let me say thank you once again for joining all those who contributed countless volunteer hours, gave financially and have lent emotional support to our campaign. Most of all, thank you to the more than 3.4 million people who took the time to either vote in person or by mail in Tuesday’s election. I was especially moved to return to Champaign County in time to see hundreds who waited patiently in line to cast provisional ballots on Election Day, staying well after the polls had closed. They were joined by voters across the state, including some in Chicago who waited as late as 3 am to cast their vote and let their voice be heard.
Thanks to all of you, our race is extremely close and could go either way. While the Cross campaign has indicated that they believe there are only 17,000 ballots still to be counted as of Wednesday morning, by everyone else’s count, election authorities are still counting tens of thousands of ballots across the state.
Many of those ballots come from seniors and military personnel serving overseas, as well as the provisional ballots cast on Election Day by people who unfortunately waited as long as nine hours to vote.
We, like most people, believe those votes should be counted. The race is extremely close right now and could go either way, and the campaign is waiting for all the votes to be counted.
As our campaign continues forward, you can help in three ways:
1. Share this email and coming news with friends and family, to make sure they have the latest information;
2. Contact our volunteer coordinator, Chasse, to volunteer to help with efforts to ensure every vote counts and is counted in your community by emailing chasse@MikeforIllinois.com;
3. Donate $25, $50, $100 or whatever you can afford to help us keep the lights on and the computers working as we extend the campaign past Election Day.
Again, thank you in advance for your contribution of whatever you can afford, volunteering whatever time you have, and for all of your well wishes. It means a lot.
